BPC-157
Body Protection Compound-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide based on part of a protein found in human gastric juice. In preclinical models it stays stable in gastric juice. Most of the evidence comes from rodent and in-vitro studies.

Mechanism
Several mechanisms have been proposed, all from preclinical work. These include activation of VEGFR2 and the downstream Akt–eNOS pathway, modulation of the nitric oxide system, and activation of the FAK–paxillin pathway, which is linked to fibroblast spreading and migration.
Key findings in the literature
01In rat tendon explants, it promoted tendon-fibroblast outgrowth, survival and migration, with increased FAK and paxillin phosphorylation [1].
02In endothelial cells, it increased VEGFR2 expression and internalization. In a rat hind-limb ischemia model, it enhanced angiogenesis [2].
03The evidence is mostly preclinical. Few peer-reviewed controlled trials in humans have been published [3].
